English Setter, 3 Years Old
UPDATE: Yaco is currently in foster in Lancashire while looking for a new home. Despite gaining confidence in the shelter, poor Yaco is struggling with so many changes in his life and needs a whole load of time and patience to gain his confidence back in a new home.
His lovely foster home are letting Yaco take things at his own pace which has been very slowly at times but with the help of cooked chicken, he is slowly and surely learning that the world doesn’t have to be such a scary place. He’s found his safe space on the sofa and is becoming more confident approaching his foster family. When he’s feeling brave, he’s very affectionate and adores them and their bond is growing each day. Even though he’s still very nervous, he takes a lot of comfort from being around people and is starting to make good eye contact as well as he gets braver over the days. He’s also getting more confident going outside and although he’s a way off any big adventures, he’s slowly making progress with the outside world.
Yaco would do best with a quiet household with no young children and a rural environment where he can explore the world at his own pace. He’ll need a resident dog to help his confidence and a home where somebody can be around most of the time for him but has the patience to let him take things at his own pace
HISTORY: Yaco is a 3 year old English Setter, DOB 28.12.20
Yaco was abandoned by his hunter along with Diana. His story is a very sad one that shows the cruel life these hunting dogs are so often subjected to in Spain. One day Yaco’s hunter took him out and he managed to collide with an electric cable, the cable got hooked on one of his testicles and he was electrocuted. The hunter took him to the veterinarian and was told that since he was no longer going to hunt with him, he should just shoot him. Thankfully the hunter did feel somewhat sorry for Yaco and contacted the shelter we work with in Spain so that they could take care of him. However, Yaco wasn’t taken to another vet and didn’t received any treatment and has instead been in severe pain locked in his kennel for two months until the hunter brought him to the shelter. Thankfully, there’s no long lasting effects for Yaco and he can live a completely normal life and other than neutering (which of course would have been done anyway) then he will not need any further treatment.
He’s a very submissive boy and as you might expect, he’s afraid of people at the moment. He gets on very well with other dogs and would really benefit from a resident dog in the home to help his confidence and show him that people won’t hurt him again and that he is safe now. Despite his fear, he is a total softie and will let the ladies looking after him do anything they need to but he really needs a proper home to be able to learn to enjoy people again and he will lose his fear little by little
