Pointer, 12 Years Old
Txiki is a gorgeous older female Pointer, she is nearly twelve years old, her date of birth is 25/04/13 and she is in foster in southwest England, her foster mum says..
“If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who adores attention and bonds quickly, she’s your girl!
“So far, she’s slotted in to our routine so quickly, the perfect companion for leisurely wanders, cuddles and little trips in the car. At home she goes to the toilet outside and settles quickly if left alone.
“Despite her age, Txiki is full of character and you can’t help but have a huge soft spot for her almost immediately. She’s still keen to play (albeit not for hours on end!) and will happily amuse herself with any games, stuffed kongs etc you give her.
“She takes her beauty sleep very seriously, an elite-level snoozer, more often than not clocking in a solid 12-hour shift from 8pm to 8am (despite our protests she must surely need a wee!). We’ll often pop a blanket over her at night, and by morning, she’s still there perfectly wrapped up like Mother Teresa herself, silently judging you for being up so early.
“On walks she doesn’t react to other dogs and is happy to say hello to people we meet – they may harbour treats after all.
“Ultimately, I appreciate that when you adopt an older dog your time together may not be the longest, but I already know she’ll give any love she receives back 10-fold. She’s a joy!”
It is an amazing tribute to Txiki that she offers so much love and joy when we know her back story is so awfully sad. We rescued her from her hunter in the Basque country who would have shot her if we had not immediately offered to take her in. She was no longer of any use to him and he wanted to be rid of her. This is always hard to see, but even more so with an old dog that has given their lives to serve these hunters. When Txiki arrived at the kennels she was in milk, despite her age. Further examination found that she was still carrying a dead pup in her womb, so she was admitted for emergency surgery. Fortunately we were in time to save her life and as soon as she was strong enough she made the journey to a wonderful foster home in the UK.
As you can see in the videos below, she is really starting to love life again and showing more fun and playfulness everyday. She loves human companionship and we are hoping to find her a wonderful home. We think Txiki might do well as an only dog in a quiet home or with quiet dogs that will not bother her too much.
