Pointer, 3 Years Old
Neo is a beautiful 3yr old black and white Pointer in UK foster. He loves people, although is scared of them (particularly men) until he gets to know them. Once he trusts you he is affectionate and cuddly, he is very playful, loves to retrieve balls and chase butterflies, and he makes a wonderful and attentive companion. He is an intelligent boy and picks up words and training fast. He is in foster in Derbyshire as an only dog, we think a house with confident friendly dogs would be best as it will help his confidence with people. He is house trained and happy to settle in his bed. He loves his walks (on long lead), he has no reliable recall yet but knows to come when called in the house. He is a very good boy, but still has fear with new people and places.
Neo was found at a state run pound in Spain almost a year ago. He was extremely scared and had to be carried out of the kennels. When Charo went to collect him, he hid in his bed and growled in fear and didn’t want to leave. He was very scared and very thin, and as they lifted him and checked him over, he just tried to hide in a corner. He had a callous or sore spot on his chest, the vet says it was caused because he had so little space, he was lying in the same position on the hard floor for so long, it has been removed, but the operation scar is a little reminder of his very hard start in life.
He spent six months in the kennels at AELA where they tried to help his confidence and help him gain weight, however he struggled in kennels and in March Charo took him home to foster with her and about 7 other dogs. He did very well, learning to live in a home and enjoy life. He started to play with toys and with the other dogs and he started to learn to trust people. In early July he came across to the Uk and is in foster while he waits for his new home.
He quickly bonds to women, but takes longer to trust men, sometimes he expresses his fear with a growl or bark. He needs an experienced and understanding home with friendly dogs to help him gain confidence and to play with. He is very human focusses and would happily delay you all day for more strokes and hugs if he could. He is a typical Pointer, loves to run and play and then crash out on a comfy mat. He is a very sweet and sensitive boy.
Neo has been with us in the UK for nearly three weeks and he has come on so fast. From a dog that would flee at the sight of a lead he now waits to have his harness put on and wags his tail at the gate waiting for his walk, he is an absolute sweetheart that just needs a loving and understanding home.
