English Setter, 8 Years Old
This very special girl is Dana, an 8 year old gordon setter with a sad story. DOB 01.06.12
When Dana arrived at the shelter, they were told she had been kicked by a cow a long time ago, she was in pain and they didn’t want her anymore. The poor girl was in a huge amount of pain, she would lie on the floor and shake in agony. She didn’t get up much but when she did, she bent her body in two in a desperate attempt to take the weight off her leg that was so badly hurt. She was totally miserable and in desperate need of help.
She has now had an operation to correct the damage caused to her leg. There was damage to her hip and the head of her femur. It has been 2 months now since her operation and she is recovering amazingly well, although she still has some way to go. She can now support some weight on her bad leg and is having rehab to build up her muscles again.
She’s currently in foster and gets on great with other dogs, people and children. She’s got a really lovely character that is coming out now she’s not in so much pain, she’s a very special girl. She is very smart and she’s quite calm at home but they think she’ll get more playful as her leg heals more.
Dana is looking for a dedicated adopter who can give her the right support she needs. Her leg will not be covered by standard insurance and although she is doing well, we can not guarantee she will not need more treatment in the future. Dana will need regular exercise when she recovers but will need reduced and easier walks compared to other working setters, however she should still be given regular exercise and mental stimulation to give her a happy life.
