English Setter, 5 Years Old

UPDATE: Beck, previously called Vipo, arrived in the UK in January 2023 but very sadly his adopters have had to make the decision to rehome him due to family health issues. This has been a very tough decision to make and the family are truly heartbroken but are struggling to give Beck everything he needs right now. He is now 5 years old and lives in West Norfolk

Beck has brought joy to their lives since the moment he walked in their door but his true character really started to shine after a few months as he learned what human affection was and how to play for the first time! Beck has been a joy from the start but for the first few months, he didn’t know human affection. His family spent time building up his confidence and he soon learned some basic commands and became very accustomed to being showered with affection, food and toys! Despite arriving not knowing how to trust people and not knowing what love was which was clear in his body language, he has blossomed into a loving, gentle and affectionate boy who definitely doesn’t shy away from tummy rubs, back scratches, cuddles and kisses!

Beck loves to play, he can be a bit clumsy with toys and is certainly re-living his puppyhood having never got to experience these things before. He’s a big goof and it’s incredibly endearing to watch. He’s great with children (even young children) and other people and has been very patient around the two cats in his home and is good with other dogs too

Beck knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘dinner’, ‘leave it’, ‘wait’ and ‘sleepytime’. Beck can walk on a lead (with a harness) but as you might expect from a working setter, he has bags of energy and would benefit from a nice big garden to run around in off lead as well like he’s accustomed to! He’s very fast when he gets to stretch his legs in a secure dog field although hasn’t been off lead like a lot of working setters we help for their own safety.

Beck is a brilliant traveller and just loves being in the car! He will willingly spend an afternoon lounging in an open boot on his bed in the sunshine! It’s his all-time favourite place, second only to the sofa! So be prepared for a new travel companion and sofa hog rolled into one! He’s been camping with his current family and found the whole trip a treat! Long car journeys do not phase him at all, he’s the ‘best boy’ when we travel. He enjoys being in a tent and is very well-behaved on a campsite. Beck is also well behaved in town, he loves to join us in cafes and the local pub and will happily settle in and enjoy a break himself.

As much as Beck loves to run around and chase birds, he also loves to sleep and you’ll see that his little tongue tends to pop out which is incredibly sweet (even after he wakes up!). He is a dog that thrives on routine in his home. He’s a very intelligent dog and soon picks up on things! He began to notice that his family would all put on coats and shoes before going out for the day or go on the school run and decided he would also like to ‘get dressed’ before he left the house too! There are days when he will try to put his head into t-shirts, shorts and anything he thinks will get him out of the house quicker! He’s a cheeky, wonderful, happy and healthy boy who can slot into a variety of homes and will make be an affectionate, gentle and pleasing companion for his forever family.

Lastly, watch your ice-creams around him.. his nickname is the ‘snaffler’!

HISTORY: Gorgeous Vipo is a male English Setter, his date of birth is 03/06/19.

Vipo is a really handsome boy given up by a hunter because he is one of the many unwanted excess hunting dogs.

Vipo is a very active setter with alot of energy. He may well have known hungry times because when he arrived he was very anxious around food, but he is gradually calming down, initially he should be fed alone.

Vipo is great with other dogs, both male and female and he shares a kennel with another young male setter.

Vipo is very affectionate with people and very submissive. Within the confines of the shelter he is very obedient and always returns when you call him, although this would no doubt be different on an exciting walk.
