English Setter, 6 Years Old

UPDATE: Ron is now in UK foster in Darlington.

This poor lad has had a rough time at the shelter and was sadly one of our longest residents but it’s taken some time for our lovely vet to get to the bottom of Ron. Ron has been incredibly skinny and struggled to put on weight at the shelter, he had sores on his body where his bones stuck out so much. It’s sadly not too unusual for dogs to put on weight with the stress of a shelter but Ron was different and so he’s been closely monitored for months now. He’s now being treated for hypothyroidism and is on low doses of medication and has finally put on some weight! We’re all so pleased for him, he’s been worrying us silly for months but we’re so pleased he was finally well enough to travel to UK foster.

Ron has slotted in very well to home life. He’s a gentle, friendly boy and his foster dad describes him as the perfect dog! He’s well balanced and very respectful with other dogs he meets as well as new people and children. He’s a well balanced dog who, despite everything he’s been through, has taken everything in his stride. He sleeps through the night and has picked up toilet training very easily. He loves his food, including his favourite duck treats, and his diet is being slowly expanded to try some new things for him but happily, he hasn’t shown any signs of an upset tummy since arriving in the UK despite the long trip.

Ron is currently an only dog but can live with other dogs or children too.

HISTORY: Ron is a wonderful, gentle lad. He’s on the large side for a working setter. He gets on really well with other dogs at the shelter, having seen many of his friends come and go as they find new homes and leave him behind.

Ron is ideally looking for a home at long last but if you have adopted from us before and can offer this lovely boy a foster home so he doesn’t have to wait in the shelter any longer, please drop us a line!

Ron is a 6 year old English Setter, DOB 20.07.19

Ron is a spectacular lad. He’s large in size and has arrived at the shelter quite thin. He’s very sociable and gets on well with both male and female dogs. He gets along with Falik in particular very well! He’s very affectionate with people although a little bit shy at first if he doesn’t know them. He doesn’t pull on his lead but that could change as he gains confidence and goes on exciting walks in a home. He also travels well in a car.
