English Setter, 3 Years Old

Sadly, due to a sudden change in personal circumstances, Rio is looking for a new home. Rio is currently in foster in SE London

Here’s what his foster mum has to say about him:

“Rio is a gorgeous big boy, full of love and adores cuddling people & other dogs. He loves to meet others out on our walks, trusting people as soon as he meets them and asking for strokes. He has so much fun off lead in a secured field, and particularly likes water. He has that usual setter charm and is very calm around the house, loving a snooze but equally loves a run about in the garden looking for birds. He walks remarkably well on a lead in a variety of places such as woods and main roads, which he is not fazed by. He does like a bird and he naturally does pull to chase them so we would expect recall to be a challenge, but in our opinion not impossible. He was also not worried about fireworks, but if our resident setter barks he will bark at her with excitement. He has been fine left on his own for a couple of hours, ideally with toys to keep him occupied. He recently has learnt that dogs beds are comfy – but often likes the floor (or a sofa/bed!) more.

He loves his toys but is not possessive at all and will share with others. He particularly likes yak chews / antlers / pigs ears which keeps him busy and tires his brain. We are currently working on ‘leave it’ as he does like to make a game of you trying to get something off him!
He also has an aptitude for climbing – so anything next to a fence he will try and climb out of curiosity.

He has great stamina and would be an ideal running partner, which we are aiming to try with him soon. He would love a playmate but he would also be good as an only dog if he had doggy friends to play with in secured fields.”

HISTORY: Rio is a very handsome male English Setter, he is nearly 3 years old, his date of birth is 10/08/2019.

Rio arrived at the shelter a little nervous, but has come on leaps and bounds. He has a lovely nature, he is great with people, maybe a little nervous initially.

Rio gets on well with male and female dogs, he enjoys their company and loves to play with them.
