Korthals Griffon mix, 9 Years Old
Leo is a spectacular Korthals Griffon mix, he is nine years old, his date of birth is 01/04/2016.
Leo has spent most of his life on a chain in an open yard by a house, he just had a small wooden kennel. He has been tied up for years and has little idea of what life could offer. It is awful to think of a dog living permanently on a chain. He was saved by the kind ladies of AELA, a charity in Spain we work closely with, in the video below you can see the day they took him off the chain.
So many things are new to Leo, in the large enclosed garden he cannot stop moving from one place to the next, as if he is amazed he has the freedom. Fortunately he shows no sign of repeated spinning like some previously chained dogs, maybe because he was always tied to a wall.
Leo has such a lovely nature and seems so grateful for his freedom. He is very friendly with people and dogs, but when excited or scared he does try to jump onto the nearest dog or human, so his new family need to be understanding and initially resilient. This nervous behaviour is reducing every day, but we have a video of it below. We are very keen to move him to UK foster or adoption by the end of November, because if not he would then have to move to kennels, which would be such a blow for a dog having some freedom for the first time.
Leo is blind in one eye, but you would never know that as he runs around the garden with such glee. The ladies at the shelter say he is a great dog and deserves a lot of love, I think he will be a dog who also gives a lot of love.
