English Setter, 5 Years Old

Gina, female five year old English Setter, born 23/04/2017.

Gina’s story is vet sad…. Gina was brought into the veterinary hospital by her hunter owner because she fell off a cliff and was left with no mobility in her hind legs, he was expecting her to be put to sleep and didn’t want to pay for any investigations. The vets however felt she should be given a chance, so Gina did not die, the vets took her on and have looked after her, as they say, just because she is invalid does not mean that she cannot live and enjoy life.

The investigations showed that one if her thoracic vertebrae was broken and there was swelling around the spinal chord. It was thought initially that she would not walk again, however with physiotherapy and rehabilitation she has been able to improve to the point where she can stand on her own. As you can see in the photos and videos she uses a mixture of cart and hip hoist to get around.

Gina enjoys life in her foster home with the vet and she mixes happily with the two dogs she lives with, although she can be a bit wary of any new dogs (which is quite understandable).

Gina is absolutely wonderful with people, very loving and affectionate. Gina will need a really special home, someone with lots of time and love to give.
